History & haunting lore

Bodelwyddan Castle is a nineteenth-century country house rebuilt in medieval style near the North Wales coast. It has served as a country house, a girls' school, and a military training camp. The castle hosts works from the National Portrait Gallery and operates as a heritage attraction.

A soldier in World War I uniform is the most reported ghost, attributed to the castle's use as a training camp. A woman in blue haunts the upper corridor, and doors slam in the sculpture gallery when no one is near them. Staff working alone after hours describe being watched and footsteps following them.

The castle and grounds are open seasonally. North Wales location with good road access from the A55. The grounds include formal gardens and woodland walks. Check opening days and any exhibition schedules before visiting.
