History & haunting lore

Castello della Rotta sits near Moncalieri south of Turin in Piedmont. Dating from the eleventh century, it was held by the Knights Templar before passing through noble families and eventually a Cistercian religious community. The Templar connection fuels much of its paranormal reputation.

Monks residing at the castle documented processions of armoured figures crossing the courtyard at night, sounds of swordplay, and doors that refused to stay closed in the chapel area. Italian paranormal researchers have studied the castle over several decades, describing electromagnetic anomalies and unexplained audio recordings.

The castle is privately managed and access is by arrangement for tours or events. It is in a semi-rural area south of Turin reachable by car. The structure has undergone partial restoration but some sections remain closed to the public.
