Craig-y-Nos Castle

Craig-y-Nos Castle sits in the upper Swansea Valley in Powys, a Victorian mansion built in the 1840s and later greatly extended. Its most famous resident was the celebrated opera singer Adelina Patti, who bought the house in the late 19th century and added lavish features, including her own private theatre. After her death the building served for many years as a hospital, including as a tuberculosis sanatorium and later a facility for the chronically ill, before becoming a hotel and events venue.

The combination of a theatrical past and decades as a hospital has given Craig-y-Nos a strong haunted reputation. Local tradition and many visitors report footsteps, apparitions, and the sound of children, often linked to its years of medical use.
