History & haunting lore

Duckett's Grove is a ruined Gothic Revival mansion in County Carlow, built for the Duckett family in the early nineteenth century. The house was burned in 1933 during the revolutionary period and has stood as an atmospheric shell surrounded by walled gardens since.

The Banshee of the Ducketts is said to wail before misfortune strikes the family. A woman in white haunts the tower staircase, and visitors report cold spots in the roofless great hall. The walled gardens, restored for public use, carry a quieter atmosphere than the ruin itself.

Duckett's Grove is managed by Carlow County Council with free access to the grounds and gardens. The ruin is stabilised but not fully accessible inside. Rural Carlow location — a car is recommended. Combine with other Carlow heritage sites.
