History & haunting lore

The Jamali Kamali complex in Mehrauli Archaeological Park holds a mosque and tomb associated with the sixteenth-century Sufi poet Jamali and the mysterious Kamali. Intricate plasterwork survives in the tomb chamber. The wider park layers Sultanate and Mughal ruins across south Delhi scrub forest.

Among Delhi’s most repeated haunt legends: possession tales and warnings about disrespect inside the tomb. Whether cautionary folklore or reported experience, visitors treat the chamber seriously. ASI and park rules apply.

Visit in daylight with park footwear; go with others if unfamiliar with Mehrauli paths.

Current site status

Monument within Mehrauli Archaeological Park—daytime access typical; carry water and sun cover. Tomb interiors may restrict photography or numbers. Respect Sufi pilgrimage etiquette. Avoid after-dark park wandering; terrain and isolation are practical risks beyond folklore.
