Tunnel of Love

The Tunnel of Love is a stretch of railway line near Klevan in the Rivne region of north-western Ukraine, where a low-traffic industrial track passes through a corridor of dense trees. Over years of use, the passing trains shaped the surrounding greenery into an arched, tunnel-like canopy roughly a few kilometres long. The line still serves an occasional freight train supplying a local factory, and it is this regular passage that has kept the leafy tunnel trimmed into its distinctive form. In spring and summer the arch is thick green, turning to gold and russet in autumn.

Unlike castles or ossuaries, the site has no dark history; rather, it has become a romantic destination wrapped in a gentle piece of modern folklore. Local tradition holds that couples who walk the tunnel together and make a sincere wish will see it come true. This is charming lore rather than a claim of the supernatural, and much of the tunnel's fame owes to photography and social media.

The Tunnel of Love is valued chiefly as a striking example of nature reclaiming an industrial landscape and as a much-loved scenic and romantic spot for visitors and photographers.

The tunnel is an active, if lightly used, railway line rather than a formal tourist attraction, and it can be walked freely without any ticket. There are no barriers or staff, and the nearby town of Klevan, with its castle, is a common starting point.

Because trains do still pass, visitors must treat it as a live railway: stay alert, be ready to step clear of the track, avoid trespassing where prohibited, and take particular care with children. There are no on-site facilities, so come prepared.
